After ostomy surgery, VON nurses provide support to clients training them to care for their ostomy and to adjust to a new way of life with minimal disruption. VON enterostomal nurses are also specialists in skin and wound care and act as consultants to other staff members at the Middlesex-Elgin site and throughout the community.
VON nurses can provide a wide range of intravenous care. More and more types of intravenous therapies are being offered at home, whether people need fluids, medication or even chemotherapy.
VON Middlesex-Elgin delivers compassionate care and comfort to clients facing death and to their families and caregivers.
Trained staff offers paediatric care in the areas of central life management, wound management and medication administration. Respite care for families may also be provided.
VON nurses provide ongoing care for clients with chronic obstructive lung disease, emphysema, cystic fibrosis and other respiratory conditions. The focus of respiratory care is to stabilize the client, decrease their visits to the hospital and shorten their hospital stays.
Shift nursing is comprised of Registered Nurses (RN) and Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) working in the community e.g. in-home/in-school. Caring for the general population but with a focus on medically fragile, technologically dependent children, chronic and complex care adults, end-of-life, palliative care and pain and symptom management patients.

VON nurses offer a wide range of quality health care services in the community. Our professional and dedicated nurses go to patients' homes to do physical assessments, help with symptom control, provide medical or nursing treatments, rehabilitation therapy, education and counseling to individuals and families.
Our professional home care nurses and nursing staff is available to help you and your loved ones at home or in a Community Flex Clinic with:

The Community Flex Clinic offers an alternative to clients receiving home care services. The clinic operates daily, by appointment. If you are already receiving VON nursing services in the home (through discussion with your nurse) you may choose to have your care transferred to the clinic site where available.
Services may be funded through the South West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) or provided to a client privately. Please contact the South West LHIN or your insurance provider to determine if you qualify for coverage.
VON nurses provide a full range of wound care for wounds resulting from surgery or trauma, as well as for chronic wounds.
